We are flooded these days on social media with tips about self-love confidence, and acceptance. It is constantly posted to show the importance that it has in our lives. They tell us to exercise, eat healthy, read, journal our feelings and more things to help us regulate our lives in the right way. There is nothing wrong with what their saying and we should do these things to take care of ourselves. I know you should never start a sentence with the word “but” …. But I believe these list are missing a special ingredients, perhaps the most important self-love tool anyone can have.

Achieving financial independence by making our own money.

Money is power in the world that we live in today. In order to be empowered boss ladies, we must make our own money and be financially independent. Money gives us the strength to walk away from anything negative such as: friendships, relationships, jobs, family and whatever else.

I was talking to my mom this morning, on our normal girl talk phone calls and today she vented about how females get stuck in bad situations and become afraid to leave. I had a friend who became trapped in an abusive relationships because she was financially dependent on her abuser and to my friend she felt

“walking away means walking into a life of poverty.”

Multiple females go through these problems of becoming completely reliant on their partner. Some get divorced after years of not working and being a stay at home mom, while others have nothing and find a man that gives them everything, until he’s bored. Every situation is different but they all result in the women losing something.

I read this article on Shantel Jackson an American model. Best known for being in an on and off 8 year relationship with Floyd Mayweather and now dating the rapper Nelly. She was publicly humiliated by Mr. Mayweather. Shantel meet him while working as a hostess in a restaurant in florida, thats where their relationship began. When she decided to leave him and move on with her life, he decided to take everything he got for her back. He posted on social media “I made you who you are, you are nothing without me.” Said Mayweather. Which left Mrs. Jackson to deal with people continuously shaming her.

Talk about a stressful situation, having no job, having not worked in years, and being reliant on someone who mistreats you for your financial well-being.

Many women are uncomfortable with budgeting, investing and getting a basic understanding of how to grow their net worth. Many women also undervalue themselves by not learning and being practical.

While it is lovely to talk about self love, the harsh reality is that if you have no money, the self love tools we constantly hear promoted are going to be of little consequence to you. This is the reason that financial independence is the biggest form of self-care and self-love that you can have.
